Tutorial by Sugumarje by Ohedas Technologies:: Making 3D Text

Time : 3 Hours (Suitable to Advance)

Tools : Photoshop and Illustrator

Process : Wallpaper

Welcome to all for this Tutorial. Here we learn 3D text creative design on Illustrator and Photoshop.

STEP 1 - DRAWING SKETCH YOUR IDEA

Let us Start... Do not Panic, it is easy...

In Every creative design needs paper works, It is easy to way of output. Really simple and worthily. here the sketch speaks what is going on, in this tutorial

STEP 2 - GET READY WITH YOUR ILLUSTRATOR
Scan this sketch into your Pc or Mac system. It needs little enhancement, like brightness and contrast.  Save into your work folder.Be aware with SAVE on every steps. Open your Illustrator make new document, my choice is A4 size… place your sketch in to the document.

STEP 3 - CREATE LETTER WITH FINAL TOUCH
In making of letter D has two shape drawing. Drag over with mouse of select two with shift click and click RMB (Right mouse button) on this palette click make compound path. It makes final D.

STEP 4 - APPLY COLORS ON LETTERS
Next select letter one by one and fill the color as your choice. Here I choose warm and cool colors.

STEP 6 - MAKE 3D EXTRUDE AND BEVEL FOR LETTER
Select L and go to 3D extrude option, Effect >3D > Extrude and Bevel.  On this palette set like this points and best lighting. Now the L is like 3D.

STEP 7 - APPLY EXTRUDE BEVEL WITH EASY STEPS
Then go to all by easy one option “apply Extrude Bevel” with Shift+Ctrl+E.

STEP 8 - ARRANGE LETTERS ONE BY ONE
Arrange all Letters one by one by Object > Arrange > Send to Back or Bring forward.

STEP 9 - SET THE LETTERS WITH YOUR IDEA
Now it looks like the sketch drawing position.

 Arrange all Text ...

This is, what we draw on sketch.

STEP 10 - NEW DOCUMENT ON PHOTOSHOP
Select all and copy the letters and open your Photoshop software and make new page, here I make new document with 1152x864px with 72 Resolution, or make if your choice.

STEP 11 - PASTE ILLUSTRATOR OBJECT INTO PHOTOSHOP
Paste your Drawing work, Ctrl+V. The Photoshop asks which type of pasting? Choose by smart Object type (This type has best quality). Make fit into the document and go to layer > Rasterize > Smart Object

STEP 12 - CONVERT SMART OBJECT FOR EDITABLE
Make fit into the document and go to layer > Rasterize > Smart Object.

STEP 13 - GET MORE PERSPECTIVE LOOK
Select the Letter with Ctrl+T click RMB select Perspective, drag the corner of bottom L set final view for your creation work.

STEP 14 - MAKE FINE WITH LAYER STYLE
Make it cool with some of layer style option. Here I make Outer Glow, bevel and emboss. It makes Cool.

STEP 15 - DRAW LINES FOR ROOM
Draw the room like line with brush tool. Easy Idea ;-)… Select brush tool. Click the left corner, press shift and do second point faraway. Yea it makes line…  Now the Letters in the room… Imaginary mood.

STEP 16 - MAKE TI AS WALL AND FLOOR
Select left side of wall with pen or polygonal tool.

STEP 17 - APPLY GRADIENT ON WALL AND FLOOR
Make new layer renamed as left side wall. Go to Gradient or Press G, on this palette create steal like gradient. I create with 5 gray based colors.

STEP 18 - OVERVIEW AFTER GRADIENT
Make it for right and bottom floor. Floor is little bright than wall. Now our 3D text process is looks like it..

STEP 19 - CREATE INNER SHADOW FOR WALL AND FLOOR
Make inner shadow to wall and floor with layer style. Please uncheck Use Global Light.

STEP 20 - OVERVIEW AFTER INNER SHADOW
Now it is finished view.  But my we are on half of the way ;-)))

STEP 21 - FILL GRADIENT MASK
In tool box select default foreground color (Black) go to gradient choose mask like gradient, them fill on floor and walls.

 


STEP 22 - OVERVIEW THE FLOOR
Check it for best.  Yea, it is cool. So you thing is it best?

STEP 23 - OVERVIEW AFTER ALL FILLED GRADIENT
Add more for perfection on it, try to best... it you not get best go > undo and re apply gradient. So it is near to final steps...

STEP 24 - MAKE FLOOD LIGHT FROM TOP
The room needs more one flood light. Try with Polygonal lesso tool, draw like beam top to bottom. Looks like given step.

STEP 25 - MAKE FLOOD LIGHT FROM - FINAL
Fill white mask gradient into the selection top to bottom.

STEP 25 - MAKE FALL OFF LIGHT ON FLOOR
Create new layer and name it falls on floor, draw oval shape with elliptical marquee tool, and fill it with white color.

STEP 26 - MAKE FALL OFF LIGHT ON FLOOR - FINAL
Go to blur with 10 points

STEP 27 - MAKE SELECTION FOR SHADOW
Next go to Letters “Live for Do” layer; select it with Pressed Ctrl button. This picture shows this operation.

STEP 28 - FILL GRAY BLACK FOR SHADOW
Make new layer, name it letters shadow, and fill with 80% black.

STEP 29 - FILL GRAY BLACK FOR SHADOW - FINAL
Got o Effect > Blur > 10 points > OK. Drag this shadow layer down to Extruded letters layer.  Try to set correct position as real shadow

STEP 30 - MAKE DUPLICATE FOR REFLECTION
Make duplicate the “Live for Do” for reflection effect.  Select or press Ctrl+T and choose Flip Vertical.

STEP 31 - MAKE DUPLICATE FOR REFLECTION - SETTING
Try to best position for fine reflection.

STEP 32 - MAKE DUPLICATE FOR REFLECTION - MASKING
Then Apply black mask gradient on this letter reflection layer. This step create best reflection method.Try and try for best.

Wow! You did it.

STEP 33 - MAKE NEXT ONE DUPLICATE FOR LIGHT SPREAD VIEW
Select “Live for Do” layer, make another one duplicate and drag into back of the original “Live for Do” layer.

STEP 34 - MAKE IT WITH BLUR EFFECT
Go to Effects > blur > 60 points. Now the letter spread like water color.

STEP 35 - MAKE IT WITH MASKING EFFECT
Create black mask gradient on this layer. This operation makes, the “Live for Do” letter reflected on left side wall. At the every process check all with care. Do not miss or escape steps, do one by one... ;-)

STEP 36 - FINAL RENDERING
At last, yes this is Final state.
